Marriage is about binding two people together by law ,so that they can share the legal privileges of authority in an emergency, sharing property and authority over their children, etc. It has little to do with love, although love is what inspires the desire to be legally bound. There are legal rights that married people have in couples that un-married couples don't have, That's all people want. They have the love, the shared life and family, they just want the legal authority of their commitment to each other.
So simple - If our country is seriously committed to JUSTICE FOR ALL - then there can be no exceptions.
